MLB All-Star MVP Shuns Colorado ZR2 for Camaro SS

Astros third baseman Alex Bregman gave up off-road fun for on-road muscle. But at least he had a good reason.

We’ve always found the fact that multi-millionaire sports athletes are gifted brand new cars for winning awards and championships a bit silly. As if they can’t just pull some cash out of their wallets and buy one, right? Regardless, the gift of automotive glory is good press for automakers like Chevrolet. And Chevy just so happens to be the official vehicle of Major League Baseball, so they offered up 2018’s All-Star MVP a choice between a brand new Camaro SS and Colorado ZR2. Seems like an obvious pick, right?

Well, maybe not. Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman took home MVP honors after hitting the game winning home run for the American League. But instead of choosing the fun little off-road toy that is the Colorado ZR2, he decided to take home the Camaro in a massive upset. Now, it’s not like we don’t appreciate Chevy’s iconic muscle car, but we know which one we’d pick any day of the week. And in all fairness, Bregman had a very good reason for picking the Camaro.

Turns out, the MVP had a little pregame talk with his parents, envisioning what he would do if he won the honors. “They were giving me a hard time and said if it happened, my dad wanted the truck and my mom wanted the Camaro,” Bregman said on Fox’s postgame interview on the field. “I had to give it to my mom.”

Well, you can’t fault him there. As we all know, if momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy. But we still think that Mrs. Bregman would have enjoyed a little wheeling in that Colorado ZR2, if she had given it a chance!
