When a lifted Silverado HD just isn’t enough, you opt to build your own big boy hauler.

For some folks, a regular old full-size pickup just isn’t enough. Maybe you just like being the center of attention, or maybe you need to haul around lots of people and big, heavy loads. For those select few, there’s the Chevy C4500. Kind of like a Silverado on steroids, this truck is basically as capable (and enormous) as it gets unless you buy a big rig.

You don’t see a ton of these things around, especially ones that have been modified. So when we spotted this awesome 2003 C4500 in the Hemmings classifieds recently, we knew we had to share it with you. The previous owner of this beastly truck obviously wasn’t satisfied with the stock rig, so he made it exponentially badder.

The front and rear differentials were swapped out with new units containing military axles. That allowed (and necessitated) the use of, you guessed it, military wheels and tires. The massive and indestructible units also made a case for custom running boards and Magnum RT stepups. For those who might not have basketball player sized legs, that is.

Power comes from a 6.6 Duramax turbo diesel, which is backed up by a 5-speed Allison transmission. Combined with a tow package and that beefy drivetrain, it’s ready to haul or tow just about anything you can imagine. And if you don’t really need the truck for work purposes, it’s also ready to draw the attention of anyone in a five mile radius. Just be careful when you park it, because lesser vehicles might be a little hard to see from the driver’s seat.
