NASCAR Chevy Truck Hits the Drag Strip (Video)

Street-legal Chevy truck racer proves that it’s more than a one-trick pony with an awesome pass.

Regular readers of the site undoubtedly remember our recent piece on a street-legal NASCAR Chevy truck. Mostly because like us, you probably couldn’t believe that something so ridiculous can be legally driven on public streets. The proud owner, YouTuber Cleetus McFarland, has been quite giddy with his purchase ever since. So why not continue to use the race-bred Chevy truck in places where it wasn’t really meant to be used?

Like, you know, a drag strip, perhaps? Once McFarland became comfortable driving something built to tear up oval tracks at high speed on normal roads, he came up with the bright idea of seeing what she could do in the quarter mile. So he strapped in and made the hour drive to nearby Bradenton Motorsports Park for some shakedown runs.

As you might imagine, cruising down the highway in a freaking NASCAR Chevy truck isn’t exactly posh. And yet, McFarland reports that the truck “did amazing” and “idled smooth,” though he does wish he brought along some ear plugs for the ride. As loud as this thing is, we certainly can’t blame him there.

McFarland admittedly doesn’t know how the truck will perform with what he calls “the most basic of basic tunes.” But it still rips off a pretty awesome 9.046-second e.t. at 116 mph on his very first pass. The pass was so good, in fact, that McFarland believes there’s a problem with the track’s timing system.

So he wisely decides to end the NASCAR Chevy truck’s drag racing career after one pass. After all, another pass would be a guaranteed disappointment. But for now, the slightly famous ride has exceeded expectations performing tasks no one would expect it to do well at!
