2021 Silverado Heavy Duty Gets Little More Expensive
New Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD trucks will cost a few hundred more per trim this model year.
Much of the excitement surrounding the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD fleet has been on its performance and engine options. And there’s a lot to get our interest piqued in the new Silverado Heavy Duty trucks. They look great and offer some sharp special editions. But, reality always comes along to keep us on an even keel. So, it is our unhappy job to tell you that 2021 Chevy Silverado HDs will cost a bit more this year.
While the increase varies by model and trim, it is not a sizeable boost in price. As per usual; the higher the range, the higher the cost.
This increase applies to 2500 and 3500 HD models. The base Silverado 2500 HD trim is now $34,700, and the 3500 HD is $35,900; an increase of about $400. LT and Custom trims will cost an additional $500. And the fancy and very cool High Country will add $900 to your bill.
Seeing the price go up slightly is certainly no surprise. Given that 2020 created a volatile market, production and distribution delays. And General Motors needs to make sure that their investments in future endeavors are grounded by the sales of today. To generate sales, you need all the great trucking things people want: towing capacity, a mighty powertrain, killer looks, and new tech like the jackknife alert system. In turn, we pay for the upgrades.
Shrug. Capitalism.
On the plus size, we do get all the cool trucking things. Some of the 2021 Silverado HD best attributes are the updated trailering camera systems, better cargo bed visibility, increased towing capacity, interior and exterior options…all improved for 2021.
Additional costs will not applied to engine options. And the 2021 Silverado HD has options, baby. Engines include the 6.6-liter V8 paired to a six-speed automatic, which turns out 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. And the popular Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V8 is also offered, same as the 2020 it produces 445 horses and 910 lb-ft, but now it is mated to an Allison 10-speed automatic.
