We Pity The Fool Who Doesn’t Get this ‘A-Team’ Van

A-Team van

For TV shows and movies, iconic cars are aplenty. But when it comes to vans, the A-Team Vandura is in a class of its own.

Things on the screen aren’t always what they seem. And this GMC is no different. First, it started out as a Chevy, but it also contains a fake cache of guns, ammunition and other weapons, too. Both instances of fakery serve a logistical purpose, but one for obvious legal reasons. It is also a real Universal Studios commissioned vehicle, even though it never saw use on the hit show The A Team. Let us explain.

In the instance of this GMC not being a GMC, It was Universal Studio’s choice to get a cheaper Chevy van and convert it to a GMC Vandura. Typical of GM at this time, that was accomplished by swapping a few badges, and saved the production team a few bucks. Not like they cared anyway, as Motor Authority reports this vehicle never saw duty in front of a camera. It was one of six that were specifically made to promote the A-Team TV show. As such, according to Motor Authority, it only had to look close to the one on television.

Because it was a promotional vehicle and not even a stunt car, all the firepower on-board was fake. It’s not like you needed real machine guns at promotional events, nor did you want them there, either. The radios might be real, however, and that would be a nice added touch of functionality to a prop. But on the plus side, there’s real firepower under the hood still.

Technically speaking you won’t get a whole lot of firepower from a 1979 van from GM, but mechanically this van looks to be in good shape. Even with 90,000 or so miles. We imagine those are mostly to and from promotional events as it was probably cheaper to throw drive it to the next city than transport on a carrier. But what that means is that if you want to drive this thing, you can do so without guilt. Surely it would be a hit at any coffee themed car show and likely would be an outright winner at Radwood. You could probably even rent it out for parades, and other events, too.

Worldwide Auctioneers has the car for sale, if you needed a bit of TV nostalgia in your collection. And since you don’t have to get a background check for movie props, buying this car will be a breeze. Proceeds will go to a good cause, too. Worldwide says proceeds will benefit the nonprofit J. Kruse Education Center Career Coaching Academy.
