Rare 6K-Mile GMC Sonoma GT Is Pure 1990s Perfection

6K-Mile GMC Sonoma GT

This pristine 6k-mile 1992 GMC Sonoma GT is incredibly rare as one of around 800 built, and it’s also a true time capsule.

For those that grew up during the decade, the 1990s was a special time, and that’s also true, culturally-speaking. It marked the rise of the internet, a number of key musical genres, unique fashion trends, iconic TV shows, and a general tech boom. However, the 1990s was also filled with some pretty cool cars that remain incredibly popular today – including sport trucks. However, it isn’t very often that we come across a 1992 GMC Sonoma GT.

This 1992 Sonoma GT is currently up for sale at the Miami, Florida-based dealer Mikalyzed Auto Boutique on No Miles Low Miles, and with just 6,383 miles showing on the odometer. This true time capsule is a rare piece of machinery, too, a one-year-only factory performance pickup that was built in scant quantities. Throw in a Bright Teal paint job with white lower cladding and pink graphics, and trucks simply don’t scream ’90s any louder than this.

Most remember that this was a time when sport trucks were booming, and the GMC Sonoma GT was precisely that – a sporty, compact hauler with unique styling that set it apart from the rest of the more mundane lineup. It’s equipped with a revamped suspension and powered by the familiar 4.3-liter V6 – backed by a 4L60 automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels –  but in this case, it wasn’t quite as hardcore as the more revered Syclone.

Since it lacks the Syclone’s turbo and other engine upgrades (and all-wheel-drive format), the GT offered less performance – 195 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque – but it also cost a lot less, with a starting price tag of $16,770 versus the top dog’s MSRP of $27,465 – as such, a lot of folks call the Sonoma GT the “poor man’s Syclone,” fittingly. It did get some suspension upgrades such as retuned Bilstein shocks, a torsion bar setup with dual stage leaf springs, power disc brakes, and BGGoodrich Comp T/A tires, which made it a competent handler.

However, the GMC Sonoma GT didn’t exactly resonate with consumers, it seems, as just 806 were built in one model year before it disappeared – which is why we don’t see them in any shape or form very often these days. As for Bright Teal examples, well, only 54 of those were produced in total, and we can’t imagine that any of them are nicer than this pristine, like-new sport pickup.
