Rare Chevrolet C30 Camper Special Is a Real Cream Puff
A crew cab Chevrolet C30 was a rare sight back in the ’70s. And it’s an even rarer sight today!
Demand for trucks from the ’70s is rapidly rising, and so are prices. After years of neglect, it seems like collectors are finally taking notice of the fine pickups from the era. And that makes rare configurations like this 1977 Chevrolet C30 Camper Special even more desirable. You see, vintage crew cab pickups are hard to find as it is. Finding a one-ton with 76,500 original miles is akin to a proverbial needle in a haystack.
But that’s exactly what we found while perusing the classifieds over at The Collector Car Network. And thankfully, the owner resisted the urge to make any changes to the rare truck whatsoever. It stands today as a literal time warp, proof that such a truck even existed. The heavy-duty Chevrolet C30 Camper Special also lives up to its name with beefy springs, shocks, stabilizer bar, and a camper body wiring harness.
Carrying both a large camper and the family is no trouble thanks to a 454 under the hood. Obviously, gas mileage is a real concern, so there are dual tanks for the big block to sip from. Nice options abound, including power steering and brakes, and air conditioning. And though the listing notes that the truck has been “restored,” it looks pretty darn original to us.
With a clean interior and nearly flawless exterior, we probably wouldn’t hesitate to hitch up an old school trailer and embark on a family camping trip. But this Chevrolet C30 would be equally at home drawing crowds at a car show. Partly because it’s a sweet looking ride in its own right, of course. But also because the six-seater is something you rarely saw back in the ’70s. And its an even rarer sight today!
