Sure, Chevy trucks have outstanding cargo capacity, but we’re pretty sure that they’re not made to haul giant bags of cheeba.

Most of us own trucks because sometimes we need to haul stuff. The large bed on the back of the Chevy Silverado or its brother, the GMC Sierra, allows us to do just that. But while most of us are tossing things like mulch and furniture back there, these trucks can apparently haul more than just your old worn out sofa. Things like 310 pounds of marijuana.

At least that’s what a group of U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found in the back of this 2000 GMC Sierra at the El Paso, Texas port of entry recently. According to News West 9, the $248,000 worth of weed was tucked along the inside of the bed walls and one door. We’re admittedly impressed with how neatly and discreetly everything was tucked in there. And apparently, so were the authorities.

“This smuggler used almost every square inch of space he could in an attempt to transport a large drug load into the country,” said Beverly Good, CBP El Paso Port Director. “The thorough inspections CBP officers perform prevented this load from reaching its final destination.”

The drugs were hidden so well, in fact, that the driver almost made it across the border. But an alert agent noticed something strange about the back bed wall. They brought in a trusty drug dog, who found some of the pot. An x-ray revealed the location of the rest. And now the 41-year old driver is obviously facing charges.

Turns out, GM trucks are pretty darn good at hauling things in a discreet manner. But not good enough to evade the long arm of the law.
