Electric Silverado is Coming–Here’s What We Know So Far
Sharing the new Ultium Platform with the upcoming Hummer, the Silverado has a projected 400 mile range and will boast up to 1,000 HP.
It may come as no surprise that GM is in the works of producing an all-electric Silverado. At this point, any car company that hasn’t begun to move their entire infrastructure into the ever-growing EV market is doomed to fail.
International and domestic law that will go into effect over the next coming years will ensure that. GM isn’t interested in being left behind. This is why corporate recently made a $2.2 billion investment, the largest of its kind in the company’s 112-year history.
Thanks to an article by Carbuzz we are able to get a better idea of what’s going on with the iconic Chevy truck and the future of EVs for GM.
“According to GM President Mark Reuss, the Silverado 1500 Electric will be built at the company’s Factory ZERO assembly plant in Hamtramck, Michigan. This is the same factory where the GMC Hummer will be put together.”
The all-electric Factory ZERO will be GM’s push into the future with its “triple zero” vision for zero crashes, emissions, and congestion for their vehicles. Supposedly, this ensures that the Silverado will be “designed from the ground up to be an EV”.
Although both the Hummer and Silverado will share GM’s new Ultium Plaform, GM ensures it will still be unique and offer customers a variety of options.
This is good news as it will imply that the truck will be capable of some serious power figures, anywhere from 625 to 1,000 horsepower.
Considering GM plans an “all-electric future” and a “historic reinvention of the company”, we hope these first examples will set a high standard for years to come.
However, there will likely still a healthy wait before we actually see the production model of the Silverado. Considering the new Hummer may not be produced until late 2021 or early 2022, don’t expect a new pick up until at least 2023 at the earliest.
We’d like to say that though this project might be a bit down the pipeline, it definitely will be worth the wait. We will update as new information becomes available about these upcoming models.
