Tire-shredding Chevy Truck Invades Carlisle Import Nationals

In a sea of imports, one Chevy truck proudly waved Old Glory and destroyed a set of tires for America.

For the most part, the Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals caters to supercars, imports, and sport compacts. But that doesn’t mean that the massive event, which just celebrated its 34th installment, doesn’t also welcome fast American machines. But that still didn’t stop us from giggling when we saw that this cool old Chevy truck, sporting the old red, white, and blue in the bed, participated in this year’s burnout contest.

The tire shredding Chevy came out to the legendary Carlisle Fairgrounds looking to earn a little cash, in fact. This year marked the first time participants could actually win money for killing a set of tires. And they certainly didn’t disappoint, filling the air with the sweet smells of rubber. Anyone who could destroy their tires in 69 second or less earned a cool $69, so everyone was obviously going all out.

And that was just one small part of this year’s Import & Performance Nationals. Nearly 2,000 rides showed up for the all-inclusive celebration, packing both indoor and outdoor spaces. It was easily one of the more diverse showings of automobiles you’ll ever see, ensuring that there was a little something for everyone. Even us old school Chevy truck fans.

Aside from the car show itself and numerous panel discussions, there was plenty of action to take in as well. In addition to the burnout contest, attendees could also do some drifting, autocross, and even car limbo. If all of that sounds like your idea of a good time, you’ll be happy to hear that registration is already open for 2020’s event, which takes place May 15-17. So head over here and sign up, because we’d love to see even more Chevy trucks there next year!
