1995 K1500 ABS Issues?
I've owned my 1995 4x4 since about 2001. I replaced brake pads and shoes a couple of years back, but seldom drive truck unless I go hunting or do my wife's garden hauls. Truck drives great but last week I started getting a grabbing noise that sounded like brakes were malfunctioning. Perhaps metal to metal? I jacked up truck and examined pads/disks and drums/shoes just to be safe. All had plenty of life left and nothing loose. Tie rod ends, bushings, ball joints and bearing hubs were tight. Master cylinder full! I then drove truck around neighborhood but noise still sounded like brakes grabbing or growling intermittently. Truck broke satisfactory but peddle was a little down (not much). The peddle being down might have been due to me using a large c clamp to compress calipers to make sure they hadn't locked up. Then, growling stopped before I got back home. Noise sounds like it is coming from ABS box under hood on driver's side. What are symptoms of a malfunctioning ABS unit? Can I disable ABS and have safe brakes? THX!
