Have 112K on 1996 and recently started tapping and knocking after start up. Went to local mechanic who works on older Chevys and he said that he found numerous metal chips in the oil and engine bottom end making noise, thinks it is bearings issue.
trying to decide should I spend $6,000.00 on engine replacement or rebuild? I've had the truck 6 years keeping up with all maintenance and using ethanol free gas. It sat for 2 months after back surgery and it started shortly after than time.
Unsure of the best way forward or just sell as is for half the book value.

 

It's going to be a money pit. Put that $6k towards something that won't bleed you dry.
