Gretings from Two Rivers, Wi. Im old and fat and been racing Chevrolet and Buick BBC and BBBs for many decades and now find myself in a position of knowing zip LOL. I just bought a pals 1997 Silverado extended cab 2x4 thats really clean. Its a 5.7/auto. After putting a fortune into it she developed a top end noise. He just wanted out. Its been suggested its a rod knock (which I doubt) to a knock sensor, to a bent push rod/broken rocker arm. Im going to go fetch it on a trailer with my GMC Suburban. So heres a few million questions; If its a rod bearing job (not wasted just worn) can the pan come off in the truck for a quickie bottom end job? It has and maintains 60+ pounds of oil pressure. I have not heard it run. Ive had a few 5.7 with the "cold start piston slap" thing. Is this maybe the issue? I am open for debate. Thoughts? Ideas??
If its an engine swap, whats the direct replacement ? As I mentioned, Im old school and dont get all the LS business and fuel injection differences etc etc. Thanks much and Happy Easter! Bill in TR
