Default 1997 Break light / Parking break

I recently replaced front pads and rear shoes at the same on my 1997 K1500. When I went out to take it for a test drive. The dash lights came on a normal when I started it up. Then as shut of the parking break light stayed on. I checked the brake it appeared fine. When I depress the break the day time running light go off. After returning for the test drive. Noticed that the break lights were not working. I have checked all the fuses, replaced the brake peddle switch and relay. Still the parking break light stays on and no break lights. Any thoughts??

When you depressed the caliper pistons for the new pads, did you remove the cap on the master cylinder? If not, you may have damaged the pressure differential switch - it’s the same dash light as the parking brake and the low brake fluid warning light. It is controlled by the DRL module.

I’m not sure, but it’s possible the switch being damaged could’ve shorted the circuit and may be the cause of the brake lights not working somehow (can’t say for sure - modules can do some weird things.

The switch is normally open, so try disconnecting it to start. If the dash light goes out, check if your brake lights are working.
