Default 1997 Chevy 1500 hard cranking

I have a 1997 Chevrolet pick up with the 5.7 L. We just replace the motor with a crate engine from General Motors, when it is cold it cranks very hard intermittently as if the timing is advancing but once it’s running it runs perfect. The battery is good and the starter checks out we have replaced the crank sensor and the cam sensor and it also received a new distributor with the motor any ideas on what else it could be? Thanks

did you check to see if any shims were left off the starter ? on some GM cars there are shims that goes on the starter so the starter can make a direct hit into the flywheel !

Is it possible the timing is too far advanced?
