5.7 L just goes dead
My 1990 gmt400 with a stock 5.7 will just go dead as you are riding along. It is like you turned off the switch. First thought it was the ICM. Changed that out but the problem persist. Replaced the distributer but the problem persist. This usually happens after about an hour of driving and if you let it sit for a while with the hood up it will start and run fine. When the engine goes dead the distributor is very hot; the medal plate under the cap blistered my finger when i touched it. The engine does not seem to be overheating highest temp I observed is 220 degrease. If you pour cold water on the distributor shaft it will start up immediately and run fine just like if you let it set for an hour. Mechanic says it is loosing injector pulse signal but can not figure why. Hoping someone has had the same experience and found the solution to the problem. I am tired of carrying a cooler of ice water with me to pour on the distributer.
thank you
