Check the fan clutch as I described and see what the result is. They work on thermal principle - the hotter it is, the more “grip” it should have.

You could also try opening the hood once it’s hot and shutting off the engine - if the fan continues to spin on its own, it needs replacement.

yeah i get the idea, the engine hotter it gets, the more heat gets transferred to the fan clutch, the more it locks up... when it's crazy hot it should be darn near like having a solid mounted fan... when you just fire it up and it sat for 3 days in -15F weather it should have little resistance

Did your neighbors vehicle have air conditioning? The older models, like my 70 olgs has two different fan clutch applications, and I am NOT sure about a 93.

I never considered that... my money is on the fan/clutch
