Default 97 k2500 4l80e shift problems

I have a 97 k2500 4l80e. The problem I'm having is it gets stuck in 2nd gear. It shifts through all the gears and locks in OD. I can drive for miles with it locked in OD. The problem is when I slow down to make a turn which it down shifts to 2nd gear and will not shift to 3rd and 4th gear. I can pull over shut off the truck and restart it it shifts fine until I slow down for a red light or to make a turn. It's not throwing any codes. I'm kinda dumb founded on this. Please help

Note that I may well know a lot about vehicles, but am not an expert at all on automatic transmissions. At the millage and age of your Chevy, you may well need to replace your A/T. Perhaps one of the Techs here can help you, but don't allow this to ruin your motor. Might be be best to put in a good rebuilt transmission, then allow it to harm your motor as well.

I had a similar issue with my "88 jimmy, tried everything from sensors to vacuum lines. In the end it was the pressure regulators in the transmission and had to be rebuilt.
the owners before me had teenage boys who abused the vehicle and in the process put too much stress on the transmission.
