Default 98 GMC Sierra 4x4 skid plate?

I have a question re: 98 GMC 4x4 skid plate. My 98 has what appears to be a skid plate on the front of the frame? It's held on by 4 bolts. Would it be acceptable to remove it permenently as every time I need to grease the truck I have to take it off to reach the 2 idler arm mounts on the frame. I don't off road so I don't see any reason not to remove it. It's not metal just some sort of composite material ( plastic?).

I don't post here often but I've always believed that the dumb question was always the one you didn't ask...having said that I must explain my position...I'm 72 yrs. old and live on a very limited income. I cannot afford to pay for simple vehicle services. I asked what I thought was a simple question , but I guess the "experts" on the forum do not deem my inquiry important enough to require a response. I have limited mobility and have several pinched nerves in my back so I asked the question because I did not want to do any harm or damage to my vehicle. In the future I'll seek advise elsewhere...I bid you good day...

Hey 96, lots of smart folks here that are glad to offer their help, but please realize we all have lives and especially on a holiday weekend, many may not be checking in. You posted less than 24 hrs ago; sometimes takes a few days to get a response, please be patient. I don't have an answer for you, but I'll bet someone will soon!
