Hi all it’s been a while, ac not cooling, 95 k3500, new GM R4 compressor, new Evap and condenser and orfice tube. Pulled vacuum on system 1 hour. Got about 20 to 24oz of Freon in it holds 32oz. Gauge readings:
the ambient temperature about 70 deg. can’t touch the large aluminum line coming off the condenser too hot the smaller one I can touch. Any ideas? Thanks.
Hope you get this resolved, as I am probably going to replace all components for my 1996 C1500 AC this summer. It cools when charged, but has a slow leak I can't find that loses about a can of R134a every 1-2 days. The evaporator is the trick. I don't want to pull the dash to replace that... any comments on how you swapped that?

The lines at the condenser should be relatively the same temperature, but both should be too hot to touch for more than a second or two.
If the other line is significantly cooler, there’s a restriction in the condenser.
I’m with you on the blockage, pulled the orifice, a little crud I’ve seen worse.
the orifice was way down in the condenser tube at the bend I hope that’s not a problem. I have seen some ac lines w/little dimples in them to keep the orifice from moving. My plan is to throw a can in and leave the orifice out and see if the high side climbs to see if the condenser pin holes inside are blocked. If not could be the orifice. I don’t believe I got any air into the system when charging. My plan also is a new condenser and dryer if the condenser blocked. Also let the evaporator sit overnight w/ flush in it before flushing back and forth. I don’t want to pull the dash to get to the evaporator. the passages are a little bigger than the condenser. You use to be able back in the day to flush out the condenser and evaporator instead of replacing. The passages are so small these days because of efficiency. I should be thankful that the system only takes a little over two cans compared to 4+ back in the day. Also hate these self sealing cans of Freon makes it hard to charge the system. Thanks for the info.
