Default Braking with 4L60e?

Hello all, my pickups got a 4L60e. Should I shift down when going down long or steep hills to save on brakes, or will that reduce the life of the tranny?

I slow down with the brakes, make the shift so the trans doesn't get a big hit of engine compression. when done this way, its no more wear than normal shifting and loading. You make a good point...I would rather wear brakes than trans clutch packs.

yes, I generally do the same- my rule of thumb is not to shift down unless the rpms are below 1500. Thanks tech2
