Default C1500 - Clean air filter box replacement

Hi All - brand new here.

I recently got a 1990 C1500 that I am super excited to be working on but I am brand new at all of this. One of the first things I want to do is replace the clean air filter box that is rusted and has some holes in the hose. I would like to just swap it for an open element Edelbrock. But I need to know what is this hose running into the filter? The two things I have been able to come up with are either a vacuum hose or a heating hose...would love some expertise on what it is and can I just take the hose out completely. Again super new at this so any advice is welcome.

Thanks!
