Default Chevy sliverado 1998

Hello I have a 1998 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a vortex V6 in it and I would like to put a 350/290 small block crate engine from Chevy but my V6 has only 78,000 miles on it should I get upgrades for my V6 to produce more power or I should go with the crate engine I would like to here your thoughts

There is a lot of life left in the V6. It depends on you. If you want a lot of power and have the money then go ahead with the 350. The V6 has 200 hp. With upgrades it can get close to the 290. That is the way I would go, but that is only my opinion.

GM now makes a 383E available . It's a Vortec , but will require that you source other parts to make the swap a running project. You can go to GM performance on line and get all the specs and costs.
