Question Dexron III vs. Dexron VI

I am looking at changing the fluid in my automatic transmission, because I have never done it before, and I would like to change it for multiple reasons. First, so that I know that it has been changed, and second because I want to change it before I have issues ( Truck has 184 K on it). I would like to use synthetic fluid, because my dad owns the same truck and changed his with synthetic and has had amazing luck (truck has almost 200 K, 100 of which are street towing miles). The manual says to use Dexron III, and when I look on-line, all I can find is conventional. I do see that Dexron VI is synthetic. What I wonder is can I use the synthetic Dexron VI in my transmission, or should I not worry about it and just put in the conventional Dexron III?
