Hello, first post. 1997-98 project truck, what am I getting myself into?
Howdy everyone. First post here. Have a late model Chevy silverado but I am still kicking myself for letting my 97 go on a trade.
So now Im kicking around the idea of getting a 97 or 98 and restore it to where it can be used as a daily driver.
Not looking at building a show truck, but something "top-to-bottom mechanically sound".
Even if the truck seemed fully functional, the critical areas I think I would want to get rebuilt first BEFORE getting very far from the house, including:
All hydraulic systems eg. power steering & brakes, including the lines, master cylinder etc., fuel & oil pressure guages, also headlamps/tail lights replaced
Trying to budget somewhere in the area of $10K "restoration" costs, after getting the truck.
Engine swap/rebuild will be part of the picture, but maybe not right at first.Am I nuts?

A little bit, if you want it to be a daily driver. Personally, I would make it a second project vehicle.
But at least you're realistic about the cost and work involved, and seem eager, so ...
Make sure to pick a nice rust-free specimen
