I'm thinking it's a ground issue seeing as some "do it yourselfers" had this truck previously. I'm looking for some advice on Where all the ground points are. I've downloaded pdfs and got a Chilton but I'm not book savy. Any advice it throws code 22 which I believe is low voltage to tps but I'm getting 5 at the connector new tps. Cde 43 which is knock sensor but from what I understand that could be a litany of things. New starter sounds like my starter bendix is hitting the flex plate and truck does not turn or even attempt just PING. Lights work radio all that.leads me to a grounding fault maybe. Any help is much appreciated thank you.

 

Auto or manual transmission? With or without 4x4 and/or manual transfer case?

The first thing you should do is verify the engine isn’t locked up - nothing about the OBD1 controls will prevent the engine from turning over if the starter is engaging the flywheel.

Try rotating the engine clockwise as viewed from the front using the bolt for the crank pulley. I recommend turning through one full revolution.

If it turns over, verify the starter is correct depending upon if it’s a manual or automatic transmission.

If correct, the starter probably needs to be shimmed. If you removed any shims when replacing it, reinstall them. If not, get a shim pack and add/remove them until you can fit a paper clip between the starter drive gear & flywheel when it’s meshing at the tightest point. Remove the transmission inspection cover and use a screwdriver to manually extend the starter drive gear to check adjustment.

Once the engine is cranking, the codes will be of more use if it cranks/doesn’t start or runs rough.
