Low Humming Noise
I have a manual transmission 1998 4x4 1500 Silverado 167k miles that feels stuck in 4 wheel drive. Manual transfer case stick shifter is in 2H position the front feels slightly sluggish and has low humming tone to it. Jack up front. When shifted to 2H front wheel still rotates. Another test, on loose gravel 2H accelerate and slam on the brakes. Rear shows acceleration marks. None in the front. Another test, front wheel against a concrete parking barrier, accelerate and doesn’t go over the barrier. Last thing to note, when driving at a test speed 30-40 mph depress the clutch and the humming tone is still there. In fact it’s there at any speeds.
Maybe I’m going down the wrong bunny trail. Maybe it’s front hub bearing that needs to be greased. It’s never been replaced or greased. Any ideas are appreciated.
