I’m not arguing against trapping mice, but I’ve found that utilizing repellents is more effective than trapping and requires less effort.

Things that smell “clean” work best. Dryer sheets and air fresheners are the easiest, but there’s also scent “bombs” that are made specifically for deodorizing auto interiors.

We winterize and store boats for customers, and part of the process is spreading dryer sheets all over the floor of the boat before putting on the tarp. I’m yet to see any signs of mice in those boats after 6 years of winterizing/dewinterizing them.

I've recently parked the pickup at night with the hood up. No new mice acorn chewing going on. Regarding the cat suggestion.....My security camera caught a small bob cat Saturday night right about midnight and then at 1:30 caught the neighbor's cat, both kind of snooping in the ivy area where I see mice.

I did remove the glove box and the top of the hvac system is nice and clean. Again, no evidence of mice in the cab of the truck.

update:

I placed some pellet mouse/rat poison on the tool tray top of radiator piece where I've seen chewed acorns. It has been there a few days. this morning, there was clearly obvious chewing and crumbs on several of the pieces! yay!
I'm using RatX from Home Depot - a poison that changes the messages to the brain - they no longer want water, thus they slowly dehydrate and die. This also helps reduce decaying animal odor.........we'll see.....
