Default NEW MEMBER '94 Silverado 4.3L

Good evening. I am a new member to this forum and not sure of the rules. In my Indian Motorcycle forum you have to introduce yourself first, so I'm Dale from west suburb of Chicago. I own a 1994 Silverado 4.3L 5 speed on the floor I bought from my younger brother's estate when he passed. SOLID Missouri truck, but the sun beat the heck out of it due to him having no garage. I was using it to move his stuff from his home to storage and it felt like he was next to me, so I bought it from the estate. My problem is it has the chrome wheel like the 454SS and the chrome is peeling from one and has a small leak in the tire probably due to rust. The other 3 look pretty good for their age, just a little rust specks here and there. 2 part question is, what is the best way to clean the 3 good rims without scratching the chrome and where in the world do I find a replacement. I found 1 guy on ebay from Cali and he wants $300 plus $75 shipping, and the pics show scratches like he cleaned it with steel wool or something. Any help for this newbie would be appreciative. Thank you.

Welcome from Florida. You can try the junk yards for a replacement. You could get lucky! There are many chrome cleaners on the market. I don't know which is the best one.

For $300 you can probably have powder coating done on all 4 rims. There’s DIY kits available or you can search for powder coating services in your area.

As for cleaning/polishing, Mothers chrome/wheel polish has been around for years and is a good product. It’s available at most parts stores and they have a drill attachment with a sponge to make a speedy process of it.

I have tried the local junk yards with no luck. The one near me even tried a "national data base" other junk yards use to share inventory with to try to help potential customers such as me. I appreciate the suggestion. Thanks.

Thanks Gumby22. I never thought of that. Great suggestion. I may look into that. Currently I have found 2 replacement rims I may just go with. One looks a lot like the original but is silver machines with a clear coat instead of chrome. The Ultra Type 5051. The other is the Vision Shift that looks similar to the American Racing Salt Flat. I will look into the DIY kit you mentioned. Thanks again.

I’m new here too. Almost finished painting my 95. Good factory parts are extremely hard to find. Luckily my truck has rally wheels. You can’t find the plastic hub caps anywhere. Good luck!
