Default Number 5 cylinder injector problem

I bought thus truck a year ago. Now I'm stuck with it #5 cylinder is not getting fuel. The paperwork the PO gave me shows this to be an ongoing problem. Pump checks out fine. Is this a common problem? What to do? Only paid $1K for it don't want to spend twice that to get it running! Suggestions please!

Default Change injector

No the mechanic said the truck has a "spider injector, that has all injectors on one assembly? Is that what you have found? I thought the injectors were like spark plugs that could be individually replaced, that is not what the mechanic said. I got a butt load of receipts from the guy I bought this POS from several were for the spider injector replacements. I'm SO confused I feel like towing it to the scrapper!

You didn't state the year or the engine you have. They did use spider injectors and the assembly needs to be replaced. If it is bad and replacing it fixes the problem, then it is well worth it. If the body is in good condition then it is well worth the $1k you paid for it.

Default Brain fart

I know y'all need the year make model engine size etc. I'm an old geezer, gets brain farts all the time. Sorry about that!
The truck is a 1996 Chevy c1500 with a 5liter (305 ci) engine. I just now brought it home from the shop and they said it needs a radiator and the spider thingy (that's technical talk for you novices), but I should start with a new engine! That makes me happy! I guess it will cost me upwards of $250 to put a new engine in, it what do you think. Counting the purchase price the $300 for the serpentine belt & tensioner, and now this $450 I could have fixed my 1975 J-10 pick-up and had a good ride! What ya gonna do? P.S. any guess what tranny is in this truk? It's a 4 speed automatic

Something is wrong. $250 to put a new engine is a fantastic price and $300 for the serpentine belt and tensioner is high.

Man, If I could find a new engine for $250.00,that would be great but I don't think I will be that lucky. The serpentine belt and tensioner should not be near the $300.00 mark. If you don't think that you want to put anymore money into it, maybe you can sell it here for the same amount that you paid for it. Just a thought.

The fact that other people have replaced the spider assy and the problem is still present tells us they were guessing and that hurts.

If possible you need to find a shop that knows what is happening, and how it works and how to troubleshoot the problem. It seems they are correcting the result , but not the cause. That can get pretty expensive and disappointing.

If you don't have the knowledge and ability to chase this down, you might consider a good shop , pay the money once and use your vehicle.
There is only so much one can do without experience , info and the tools to do the job.
