Default oil cooler and air box

Oil cooler Gen V 454
Six years ago I had a cooler line pop off [awful plastic clip in's], swath of oil in my wake 3ft wide...Caput to the engine. Installed a rebuilt, So disgusted with the cooler design I just left it off. No probs since.
Am now prepping [having retired] to get on the road with my Hi-lo travel trailer [official weight 4.3k pounds] Although have done a few short journeys [under 100 miles] Would it be advisable to reinstall a cooler system [ have braided lines etc along with 8an fittings to apt]
As an aside, have been thinking on cold air intake...Air box..seeing as most cold intakes are filtered around the fender [and none cheap] wondered if thru design, trial and error, jiggery etc turn the air box into a filter housing leaving all the the pip etc as is.....Stupid proposal??
Tks in advance for any info.
BTW...the original owner had the vehicle sent to GM custom shop, car was 24k then..bill for extras 15k [marine tb etc etc and 'special engine'...what ever that is] I know its a k2500 with hd 'everything' ..his words [My ownership dozen yrs]

I would recommend using the oil cooler if you’re planning to do extensive towing. The added load of pulling a trailer long distance will cause higher engine temps and the cooling system alone doesn’t have adequate contact with the crankcase area of the block - i.e. the primary components such as the crank, cam and valve train.

As for a cold air intake… the factory setup is about as good as it gets, especially for these engines.

Most CAI’s don’t add any significant benefit to engine performance when it comes to daily drivers and/or otherwise stock motors - they’re more beneficial for racing or off road vehicles.

Thanks for the observations..Sensible to agree with recommendations .
Have noted pipl purchasing expensive filters, removing the can and placing directly atop of the tb....Obviously cant be claimed as 'cold' air....[Incidentally I viewed a trial of 8 most popular filters, one, initial K gained 2/10ths lower 0-60 time..but allowed up to 8 times more contaminants thru] One always has to pay the piper.
