I have a 98 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4. The passanger side front axel seal at the diff housing is leaking. What will I need other than the seal will I need to do the job?

 

giant socket for the axle nut
a kit with slide hammer and seal driver will make job go 100x easier/faster. You can rent them at auto parts stores.

 

I have the tools... I was referring to any additional parts.

 

There shouldn’t be any additional parts needed unless you see damage when you have it apart.

It’s easy for some of the components to fall out of the housing, especially once the axle is removed. Here’s an exploded view in case you need it.

When I did my seals, I did the stabilizer bar links at the same time because they were shot. You may want to check all the components you'll be touching to see if they need attention too (bearings, control arm bushings, etc.)

You'll probably needs some axle oil.
