Question Rough Idle, Black Smoke Then Stalling

1992 Chevy K1500 just swapped on a carb from the tbi. The truck is barely running and there are plumes of smoke coming out the tailpipe and it ends up stalling after 20-30 seconds of running. I have the fuel pressure at around 5-6 psi. The upper gasket in the carb has blown twice now. Is there an issue with the carb or something else? thanks

What carburetor are you still using? The Edelbrock or something else?

Yeah its a 600 cfm Edelbrock with an electric choke. My brother is willing to let me use his 650 cfm edelbrock just not sure if the carb itself, or something else is the issue.

I'm old-school so I'd run a vacuum gauge on it to see if it's steady or fluctuating. Barring, that a full wet/dry compression test. I'm not a professional mechanic, but I was training to be one. I am an expert on carburetors and air-conditioning systems. Edlebrocks are good carburetors, although I prefer Holleys'. It's just a personal preference of mine. If you like a different brand I can still help you out, including a TBI system. I like not having a carburated system as they don't adjust for high altitudes.
