Timing messed up?
Hey I have a 98 Chevy Silverado 5.7 vortec, the timing is messed up ain’t I pulled the distributor out because I thinks it’s off a tooth and I didn’t mark anything so now it seems like I can’t get it to set back in there, I had it on there one time and when I bumped the key so it could fall in the oil pump it went back the same way it was all help is appreciated
You were wasting your time pulling the distributor, as timing is *NOT* adjustable by rotating the distributor on the 1996 and later Vortec V8 engines. It's electronically controlled.
If you did pull it and made no marks, if you can get piston one to top-dead-center, you may have an alightment mark on the distributor base that you can point the rotor to, *if* it even has a rotor. I am looking at a Haynes manual, and it covers all year models from 1988 to 1998, so may not be accurate for your model.
I advise digging into the manual for your engine here, and seeing if you can figure it out:
