What transmission would a 1993 Chevy K1500 5.7 ext cab short bed auto have?

Thinking they were still 700R4's then, around that time was the transition to the 4L60E.

700R4's shift hydraulically.
4L60e shifts electronically. Requires a control module.

Do you have easy access to the transmission? It should have an identification tag and/or number on it. I also found this article that explains the differences between the 700r4 and 4l60e.

I can't read the tag as it's buried in snow. Does one shift harder? Cuz it seems to shift pretty hard.

negligibly. Transmissions shift harder as they wear down.

why do you ask? Are you going to replace it? If you're going to buy it from a rebuilder, then they should know.

It went out so I'm thinking about one from monster transmission and building the truck up more.
