My sons 1998 Chevy suburban 5.7 I got 180 psi in each cylinder but number six has zero I got 60 pounds of fuel pressure on the gas line spark on the first to plug wires driver side car will not start even with ether

 

no matter what 60 psi isnt good. need to see if a valve is stuck open or if its blow by

 

But all the cylinders have 180 but number 6 has nothing but I was told it would run on 7 but it doesn’t even start on starting fluid

 

Is the check engine light on? If so read the codes, it lead you in the right direction. Even with one cylinder bad, you should get something.

 

You should get something and it might be an easy fix. Why not trouble shoot something instead of ignoring it till it becomes a bigger issue?

Hard to say with limited info. I would ask the kid what he was doing when this happened just for the simple fact that my nephew borrowed my 98 k1500
and it came back on a tow truck and after a harsh talking to i found out he was doing burnouts all day dumping the clutch with his friend and the timing chain jumped some teeth in the process and blew half of my catalytic converter guts into my muffler.

 

His wife was driving it when she pulled up to the house it’s seem to be running on two cylinders and just got worse

 

As mentioned earlier, check for codes. Then I would suggest inspecting the basics like spark plugs (is the threaded end with the electrode black/gray, check the gap, etc), inspect the distributor cap and rotor (how do the contacts look, clean, burnt, etc), verify spark on all plugs, check resistance of spark plug wires. Cylinder 6 (the one with 0 pressure) most likely has stuck piston rings. You could possibly restore compression (if the ring isn't caked with carbon) by doing a piston soak.
