02 Silverado door stuck
·#1·46m ago
This truck was broken into awhile back and they jacked up the ignition along with the passenger door. This door has a key lock and they destroyed the plastic retainer. Recently the key lock fell inside the door and something else must have come loose. Anyway the door is closed and I can’t open it. The electric lock doesn’t seem to work and the outside handle is loose like it’s come loose inside. The inside handle is still hooked up but doesn’t open the door. I can’t get the inside panel out to get access to the latch. The window does come down.
I need help! How can I get this door open? Thanks

Im not sure that will work since it appears that the linkage is disconnected from the latch. I got the inside panel push away far enough to to get a mirror in and look at the latch but don’t know what I’m looking at. During the process the key lock fell out. I can try that but the door would have to stay open till I can fix it.
Ouch. This happened to the drivers door on my 2006 Silverado. Some idiot tried to steal the vehicle or break into it by hammering a screw driver through the sheet metal under the drivers door side key hole, and all they did was disconnect the linkage to the outside handle, and put a hole in the door that I had to bondo and repaint. Fortunately in my case, the inside handle still worked to open the door, and I was able to take off the interior panel and reconnect things. It's crazy that someone did it, as this is a white Silverado WT (work truck) edition. Nothing in there but an AM/FM radio.
The only thing I can think of is to take a good hard look at that lock mechanism on the driver side with the panel off, and then try to fabricate a hook of some sort from stiff coat hanger wire that you can fish down into the passenger door and hook the right spot where the linkage came out, and pull it to release the latch. Having the other door as a reference should make it at least possible to know how to fish around in that door.
Good luck!
