Default 04 Silverado 5.3 binding 4x4

(just bought this truck) So I think I've narrowed the issue down to the front diff is 3.73 and the rear diff is 3.22.. So I'm wondering how hard would it be to swap gears to 3.73 in rear? or is this something that you'd just buy a new rear end? (mechanically inclined) Trying to save money.. Thank you for your assistance

It can be done but you have to space the rear end correctly.

Yeah but is this something you can do without fancy tools? I've tried to YouTube it and looks relatively reasonable if you have a way to measure backlash.. But my dad says now I quote "back in my day we set everything up by feel and some paint".. Is this possible with today's diff?

Only if you have the years of experienced feel he is referring to! The majority of us old mechanics (I have been turning wrenches since 1962) whenever we needed a special tool we went out and bought it. Trust me, if you have decided to fix your own vehicles then every special tool you run into will be needed again down the road.

Thank you and you make a very valid point.. I turned wrenches for 13 years at Nissan and we didn't rebuild anything was always direct replacement then got sick (long story short spent 4 years in hospital).. I'm disabled now but I figured with my knowledge and my nephews good back we could get this done.. Thanks again for your advise and I'll be back soon with more questions I'm sure but if the good Lord's willing we'll get this done.
