2002 Silverado 2500HD wiring question
2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
A friend installed a new windshield. He nicked the wire along the top by the rear view mirror. When cleaning out the old goo that seals the windshield in. Since then, I have a parasitic drain on the battery. The wire appeared to go along the groove towards the drivers side pillar. As well as to the mirror or overhead console. Everything on the truck works as it should. Except the rear view mirror. Doesn't tell temp or direction anymore. I tried simply unplugging the connection to the back of the mirror itself.
Where does the rest of that wire connect, that leads toward the driver side of the vehicle? I've been told it connects to the wiring harness, inside the drivers door. Would like to figure it out before winter, it'll drain the battery faster in cold weather.
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like the "knick" actually shorted out the 12V power to the rear view mirror, along the track above the windshield. The other end of that wire is probably down under the dash on the drivers side, or under the plastic cover over the pillar on the drivers side of the dash. If you can remove the pillar cover, I would start there, and see if you can just cut the wire (cleanly!) there, since the short is likely hidden unless you remove the windshield again.

Just digging through that manual, I found this diagram for a mirror with compass:

Looks like it is powered through multiple wires - pink, black, and light green. The pink or the green is what is shorted - likely to the black. I would look for those colors in the cable in the pillar, or trace up to the pillar if possible from under the dash.
