2002 Silverado - park lights, tail lights and dash lights stay on
Confused on this one. The park lights, tail lights and dash lights stay on when the truck is shut off and the keys removed. They will stay on all the time unless I unhook the battery. It's something that just started out of the blue. I have replaced the light switch/dimmer switch. I have replaced and swapped relays and checked fuses all with no solution. I removed the park light relay and they still stayed on. I removed the fuse for the park lights and they went off but the tail lights and dash lights stayed on. i have pulled wires, checked wires, checked voltages, what am I missing here? I literally put a kill switch on it so it could be driven and parked for 8 hours without draining the battery until I can get this figured out. I figured I have exhausted what I can see at this point and need some help from some bigger-brained individuals here. The last time I had an electrical short in a car, I took it to a mechanic that started replacing part after part until there wasn't anything left. It cost me a vast fortune. Any suggestions? Even if you know the best place to take it that can specialize in electrical issues. That would be great as well.
electrical problems can be a nightmare to track down, especially without good electrical troubleshooting skills, which are rare among grease monkeys.
Best to learn and do it yourself.
first impression is it sounds like a faulty ignition switch.

Howdy Jake… this is a long shot. But, I think Joe is really likely to be onto something here (and he is the expert, I assure you). Let me suggest something maybe a little more simplistic, and sadly, unlikely.
These ignitions are famous for allowing you to remove the key without actually turning off the vehicle. I am hoping it is simply because you are turning the ignition back to the rearmost position, which is accessory. Maybe you are missing the off position and then just going all the way to the next rearmost position, and pulling the key out. I have done this a few times, and learned that I can now pull the key out of the ignition without any problem in every key position.
It’s likely too good to be true, but I thought I’d throw that our there and hope for the best for you.
