Did some searching but haven't landed on anything yet. I have the steering cover off the column so I can see the shifter mechanism very well. When you press the brake and pull the lever, there is a small "button" or piece of metal that is in the way of the gear shift keeping it from tilting far enough to get it to shift out of park. You can take a small screw driver and press this "button" in and it you can then shift. From this point you can shift in and out of park and through all the gears with no problem as long as the truck stays running. If you kill the engine and crank it back up the "button" is back and you can't shift. Again, this little piece of metal is keeping the shifter from being able to pivot fully.

I started looking at the brake switch but I'm not sure if this is the area I need to pursue. My brake lights work and everything. I just don't know what pulls in this small piece of metal. I'll try to get a picture if I can get a good focus and some lighting.

Any ideas?

I finally found another thread that mentioned replacing the ignition switch started causing this issue. I too replaced my ignition switch. After further disassembly I've found the cable that runs from the ignition switch around to the gear shifter. After unplugging this cable on the ignition switch side I see a piece is broken. Looks like when you turn the ignition on it pulls on this cable to allow you to shift. I'll replace the cable and respond back.
