Default 4l60e swap and now Trans randomly slips.

Hello All,

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the issue I'm having.

I swapped a 4l60e from a 2004 avalanche that I had rebuilt and put a few thousand miles on, into a 2005 avalanche. The trans in the 2005 worked fine, but I had put some better parts in the one for the 2004 when I rebuilt it.

I drove the 2005 with the swapped trans about 1500 miles with no issues and then noticed that it seemed to take a little bit to get into 3rd when I was pushing the rpms up. It wasn't happening regularly, but I did notice that it seemed to happen when I was driving for a bit, had to stop for gas, then drove away and made a right.

There was a period where I had to drive with the shifter in the Neutral gap but the dash showed "D".

When I swapped the trans, I did notice that the shifter cables seemed long but I was able to push it onto the linkage and everything was fine.

I recently tried to adjust the shifter cable and noticed that there was a little play in the position when it was in the proper drive spot. If I held the shifter down a bit to take up the room on it, it worked fine.

The other day I parked on a slight incline and when I tried to shift into drive, it was stiff to shift, and then it was loose in the other direction when it was in drive. Then I was having the slipping problem again. if I shifted into 3rd and let them rpms come down a bit, it kicked in and worked fine.

The slipping never only occured going from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3, it was random.

My guess is that it need an adjustment of the cable, but when I tried that the other day and then parked on an incline, it seemed to not want to go into the right spot and cause an issue to slip.

I know this is a lot of probably random symptoms, but curious if anyone has experienced anything similar after swapping transmissions or even rebuilding. I read a post here about someone taking it out and putting it back in and needing to adjust the cable, so I will try the procedure outlined as well.

I was thinking this is more a Neutral Selector switch issue, but TBH, dont know if that controls any electroics of it in gear or just to know if it's in neutral.

I thank you if you made it this far. Hopefully I can get some dialogue going and willing to try what some others may suggest.

Thanks!
