Default AC goes warm after a bit

Hello all. I have an 05 and was looking for some guidance. I have some experience working on vehicles but not really much in the way of AC work.

When I start the AC it blasts as cold as can be. It does so for around 15 minutes. Then the air has a stale smell, then it goes warm.

If I turn the AC off for around 15 minutes or so, then back on, it’ll come back to being cold. And the cycle repeats.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any ideas of how I could do some diagnostics? Thanks!

When you turn the AC on, does the compressor stay on all the time, or does it cycle on and off.

Do you have a set of AC gauges for R-134a?

I agree. Likely low on R-134A.

when it goes warm....rev the engine up to 2500 rpm and hold it there for 10seconds...does it go cold again? if yes....confirm the refrigerant charge weight by recovering it. If its low, findand fix the leak and charge it up. If the charge level was ok...the ac compressor may be tired.
