A few days ago I had an attempted theft of my truck. The car thief gained access to my (locked) vehicle right outside of my house in broad daylight and tried to force the ignition tumbler to turn over. I think the coded keys thwarted the attempt, but the inside of my vehicle was then trashed before the person took off with no belongings of value.
When I went to start the car the next day, the key had some issues turning over in the ignition tumbler - the spare key worked without a hitch, and as I used both keys, the tumbler seemed to go back to normal. I'm in the process of replacing that tumbler, which seems like a fairly quick endeavor. Looks like a replacement (w/ two matching coded keys) can be had for around $47.
Here's my question: I've noticed that the alarm system in the truck no longer goes off if you gain entry without using the FOB. I can click the panic button on my key FOB and the alarm goes off, but if I'm inside the truck and click the "arm alarm" button on the fob, then open the doors manually, the horn does not go off even though I can see the "alarm" icon flashing on the dash.
Could there be a fuse that's been pulled out of my side panel that needs replacing?
