Default Dashboard instruments go dead, then re-start

The title pretty much describes it. The truck runs fine, but every so often the dashboard instruments don't work. The dashboard lights and turn-signal indicators work, but the gauges are dead. So far, the gauges "re-boot" after a few minutes, but it's inconvenient to drive without a speedometer or fuel-gauge. Especially if they went out on a highway trip. I haven't been able to check for OBD codes while the gauges are dead, but it hasn't thrown any that I can find when the gauges are working again.

It's a 2004 Silverado, V8,

Any ideas ? Thanks.

Your gauge issues are a common problem, your gauges are fed information from the ecm via data information. If you are not getting any code then there is an issue with the gauge cluster it self. Your lights in the cluster have their own electrical circuit that is why those work.

if it was one or two gauges i would agree but to have all of them fail the issue isnt the stepper motors. maybe a poor connection at the back of the cluster or wherever they get the information from (maybe bcm)
