First problem: Heat control wouldn't turn off heat. Not good with summer coming on.
Checked appropriate fuses. All OK.
So decided to check and probably replace control switch--three ***** on dash. Module.
Required removing instrument panel cover--easy, two screws and pull it off, right. Up to this point
I hadn't disconnected battery, just wanted to see what I was up against getting to heater/ac module.
Took out two screws and began to wiggle off instrument panel frame. Suddenly had smoke boiling out of
vicinity of radio. Quickly as possible disconnected battery. (OK, I should have done it first).
Finished accessing radio and temp. control module. Several of the radio wires were fried.
Thank goodness they didn't ignite!
What worries me is that NO FUSES POPPED! Best I can tell, this involves a short inside the radio.
Wiring is so bad that I may just do without Tammy Wynette in the future. Getting where I couldn't hear her
anyway.
Anyone run onto anything like this?
