Default Fan/Clutch Assembly

How do I remove the fan/clutch assembly from the water pump? It is screwed onto the shaft of the water pump. How do I keep the shaft from turning while trying to unscrew it? This is on a 2003 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L engine.

Typically use a specialty tool you can rent from parts stores.

fan clutch wrench and a hammer works.

I use an air hammer with a long chisel bit. a couple hits straight down to create a notch and them a angle hit into the notch to spin the fan off....off in seconds.
