So I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado z71 crew cab. Truck is in wonderful shape other than those leaf spring mounts. I never thought to check those when I bought it but as I’ve done research they are part of the frame. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue
as long as the frame rail is ok...have a bodyshop weld in a new bracket.
Frame rail is fine, issue is they don’t make that bracket so I have to find someone to either make one or go to a junk yard and start hacking away to get one.
This is an easy fix but it does require some skill with a welder. If you’re not comfortable welding, I recommend going to a shop or getting a friend/relative that can help you.
Support the frame rail and remove the bolt from the leaf spring.
Use vice grips to pull the bracket back flush. Drill an 1/8” hole at the end of the crack to keep it from spreading further, then prep and weld the crack. Grind it flat, then weld a flat washer to the mount. Either a 1/2 or 9/16 washer should fit over the bolt for the leaf spring. Once the welds have cooled, spray paint to protect them.
It’s good practice to disconnect the battery when welding on a vehicle.
Did you ever get this fixed? I'm currently experiencing the same thing on my 2014 except mine is rotted off and only thing supporting it is the bolt. Stupid the backs are replaceable and the front isn't. Dealership told me to look online cause they don't know what I can do.
