Low Fuel Warning
I recently purchased a 2001 Silverado 2500HD. When we put the key in the ignition, the low fuel warning stays on until we drive approximately 30 miles an hour. The other thing is that the fuel meter shows empty until we get to that speed. Does Anyone know if this is normal or not? If not, any idea if a new fuel filter would help or anything else?
It sounds like your gas gauge sending unit on the fuel pump assembly is dirty/sticking. I would try this - run your gas tank down to about 1/4 full and add a can of Berryman B-12 to the gas tank right before you fill up. The solvents in the Berryman B-12 might just be able to clean up the contacts on the sending unit or free up the float arm. You might need to do this 2 or 3 times.
i know my friends early chevy 3500 would do this. unlike the stepper motors that would just read inaccurate the fuel gauge would read low till you started driving then go to the appropriate level.
