I have made an account here in hopes somebody can help. I have a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 5.3L and it has an oil pressure issue that I can’t figure out. Driving it rides at 20psi and at idle it drops below 5psi causing the light and dinger to go off. I have replaced the oil pump twice, the oil pressure sensor, Cam and Main bearings, as well as the dash cluster thinking maybe it was the gauge itself. I’m at a lost any suggestions are appreciated.

 

Welcome to Chevy. Are you burning oil - if so how many miles per quart. And how many miles on the motor and what weight oil are you using.

 

Have you checked it with a mechanical oil pressure gauge?

 

I have checked it with a mechanical gauge and it shows the same as the dash. It doesn’t burn to much oil as far as I can tell, I don’t drive it much I have a second vehicle I drive. I run 10w-30.

 

How many miles? I have a 93 Sub with over 350k: I need to run 20-50 to keep the pressure up and the light off. Maybe try 10-40 next change

 

I can definitely give that a shot. It’s got 250k miles.
